How Safe you water actually is
Every day millions of people receive high quality drinking water from water suppliers. In 1996 only 4,769 of the more than 55,000 community water systems in the U.S reported a violation of one or more drinking water health standards.
Hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent to build drinking water teatment and distribution systems, and an additional $22 billion a year to operate and maintain them. In 1997, more money became available to upgrade drinking water systems and implement local source water protection activities.
A network of government agencies have been put together to ensure that public water supplies are safe. However, problems with drinking water can occur. |
